TBFF Opens With Powerful South African Film

The Toronto Black Film Festival opened on Wednesday night at the Isabel Bader Theatre to a nearly sold out audience.

The opening film was a riveting story from South Africa "Thina Sobabili: The Two of Us". The director Ernest Nkosi, producer Enos Manthato, and one of the actors Thato ''DH'' Dhladla were on hand to answer questions after the screening.

They shared with the audience how this tragic story depicting ghetto life in Alexandra township was denied funding time and time again. The crew incredibly shot the entire film in 7 days out of their own pockets. They've taken the film to festivals all over Africa, Europe, North America with amazing success. They say their next project is a love story between South Africa and Barbados.

Check out some pictures from Wednesday night!
