Jean Augustine's efforts in the House of Commons 25 years ago to build support for a motion calling on the federal government to designate February as Black History Month in Canada succeeded in the end, but there were some hurdles along the way.

Last Saturday night, Iqaluit kicked off Black History Month celebrations with an opening ceremony at the Frobisher Inn. “The objective is to express the reality that we all are one connected, united human family,” said Stephanie Bernard, president of the Nunavut Black History Society.

To commemorate Black History Month, the combination photography and illustration art exhibit 143 (I Love You) Sponsored by TD launches inside Toronto's Union Station on Thursday, February 6th at 7:00 pm and runs until March 28th.

Over 100 years after his death, Abraham Beverly Walker has received the Order of New Brunswick. Walker was the first Canadian-born Black lawyer in the country, being called to the bar in 1882.

The editorial team at ByBlacks.com is proud to announce it is participating in the undergraduate internship program at Ryerson University’s School of Journalism in Toronto. The online magazine is now an official Intern Employer with the university. It is the first Canadian Black-owned media organization to offer internship placements to Ryerson journalism students.

A 24-year-old man who beat a GO bus driver in an unprovoked, racially motivated, senseless and violent attack has been sentenced to 15 months in jail. Rocco Vietri — who, as court heard, has 17 prior convictions for violent crimes — pleaded guilty Friday, Sept. 6 to assault causing bodily harm and failing to comply with probation.

Bishop Audley M James, founder and visionary of well-known Toronto based Revivaltime Tabernacle Worldwide Ministries, was a highly esteemed man of faith. He impacted numerous lives, communities, churches and governments worldwide. Bishop James passed away July 20 2019 at the age of 81.
