Emancipation Month Lecture Series: City of Toronto’s Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit is hosting a number of events during the month of August to commemorate the abolition of slavery in Canada. The Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit is also ecstatic about our new Emancipation Month Lecture Series.
This series features Canada's leading thinkers and scholars who will share their thoughts and lead conversations on what the emancipation of Black people means today for all Torontonians as well as Canada's diverse populations.
For each lecture, our featured speaker will offer remarks and reflections on Canada's Black communities' successes while exploring our unfinished journey towards Black liberation in this country. Each lecture will be followed by a short Q&A with audience members. This event is open to all members of the public, as well as all members of the Toronto Public Service.
