At least 20 lives were lost with dozens more reported missing. Search and rescue efforts are currently underway. A foot of rain fell in just 10 hours, flooding small towns, causing mudslides and destroying homes and buildings. Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit estimates the cost of repairing the infrastructure will run into the tens of millions of dollars and will set the country back two decades.
Robert Young, the creator of the Young World Faces photography collection will be donating proceeds from the sale of his Face of Dominica T-shirts & Tank tops to assist the people of Dominica in their recovery efforts.
The fundraiser will start on Monday, September 7, 2015, in correlation with Young's birthday and the "Soca Or Die" end of summer party at Cabana, 11 Polson Pier. Attendees will be able to purchase T-shirts at the party. Monies raised will be presented to the Dominica Hurricane Relief at a special fundraiser fete in October.
The Commonwealth of Dominica Ontario Association is collecting cleaning supplies and equipment, items for babies/seniors and non-perishable food. Pick-ups can also be arranged. Your help is greatly appreciated.
