Shauntay Grant is a Black Canadian writer and storyteller from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

She’s complex, jarring at times, expressive but shy, and happens to be a writer, actor, director, educator, executive director, wife, and a business owner.

No other time of year do we have so many Black Canadian focused cultural events happening across Canada than in Black History Month. February is jam-packed with events, more than you could possibly attend.

Shakespeares’ Niggas, Beatdown, Born Ready, Pusha-Man...sound familiar? These are some of the plays written by Trinidadian born Joseph Jomo Pierre. His plays have been produced by Obsidian Theatre company, and now Jomo has co-written a piece based on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, aptly titled Twisted.

You may not be able to see her in James and the Giant Peach, because tickets are selling so well, that they have already extended the show to January 2015. Saccha Dennis acts, sings and has performed in several productions across Canada, including We Will Rock You , Ragtime, My Fair Lady and Maria Severa.

ByBlacks review BBBB Imagine this. Six black male poets from across North America, inside the St. Lawrence Centre in downtown Toronto, a stage decorated scarcely with a mic, mic stand, two Up From the Roots banners and DJ Manifest stage left, decked out with his Mac, two turntables and a mixer.

There are over 475,000 people who identify as African/Caribbean/Black living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Our experiences often vary, depending on the city of residence and financial status.
